DESCRIPTION:
APW - Illinois, Sangamo Special, extremely rare HC model, 19J, 16S, gold-filled original HC with very attractive engine turning and engraving detail including a flying bird to front and rear, front shield with initial, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, jeweled barrel, broad transverse band pattern nickel damascene, s#2658881. An extremely rare watch, the total production of this hunting case version of the 19 jewel Sangamo Special was only 50 made. An excellent opportunity here for the Illinois collector as examples of this watch very seldom come to market, and the last example this cataloger recalls having seen publicly offered was in 2006 when another example passed through our galleries.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking very sluggishly with low balance amplitude on a full wind, overhaul recommended, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered typical mild fine to micro-fine scratches, center bridge with mild abrasion at inner edge adjacent regulator adjustment screw; dial reverse has been inspected and dial is a replacement that was made for a different model of Illinois mvt and has had one of its dial feet removed to allow it to fit on present mvt, dial with outer chapter hl at 11:30, small hl below seconds-register at 6, some scattered fine scratches, some very small edge nicks under bezel, some glue residue on dial surface at perimeter areas; fine hands of silverish color with areas of oxide and abrasion; case shows hardly any wear, mild ding toward right perimeter of front, few pinpoint nicks to band, superb engine turning and engraving detail, case front opens sluggishly and needs a small nudge of assistance at the end of its motion to reach fully opened position; tight bow, crown shows very little wear; glass crystal is somewhat smaller than appropriate and is seated with evident glue excess.
